James Noske and Hannah Materne
The first thing James Noske ever asked Hannah Materne was ‘where’s your wedding ring?’.
Fortunately, Hannah, who met James at Laneway Festival in Adelaide in 2014, noticed his kind nature and height and overlooked the “shocking” pick-up line.
James, from Hahndorf, popped the question about seven years later in Croatia in the Marjan Forest Park.

“We came to a beautiful secluded part of the park by the water, went for a lovely swim and then James proposed saying ‘for the last time I’ll ask you, where’s your wedding ring? … Will you marry me?’
“It really was the most spectacular moment and then when we got back to the hotel, I got another surprise because James had organised the room to be filled with rose petals and champagne – and then on top of that, we went for the most amazing dinner on the harbour. The whole day was incredible.”
The couple, who now live in the UK, were married at Villa Vedas in Bali on August 29.
Hannah described seeing each other for the first time as she walked down the aisle as a “beautiful and emotional” moment and says the whole day was “perfection”.
“From the ceremony to the reception to food to the people to the villa to the styling to the music (DJ and band) to the photographers to the dancing – it was truly a dream come true and beyond that,” she says.
“We couldn’t have asked for a more joyous, fun, relaxing and beautiful wedding day.”
