Editor’s note – Summer 2023/24

Welcome to the second summer edition of the Hills Wanderer!

Cherries, strawberries, lush green grapevines, Christmas lights, hot days and balmy nights … they’re all signs summer is here in the Adelaide Hills.

This season, as the days get longer and many of us take time out from our busy lives to travel, we’ll introduce you to a man who’s seen plenty of the countryside.

Kym Turner has spent months of his life travelling Australia, but not in the comfort of a plane or even a car. He prefers to see the countryside – and the desert – via pushbike. Find out what drives him and where he’s headed next.

We’ll also take you behind the walls into the stunning garden sanctuary where Susie and Andrew Nugent – founders of the world-famous Bird in Hand brand – go to unwind, and explore what it’s like to live in one of the growing number of earth-sheltered, fire resistant homes popping up across the Adelaide Hills.

We’ve also teamed up with renowned wine writer and proud Adelaide Hills resident Tony Love to help you find the perfect sparkling for summer.

So why not pour yourself a glass of one of the region’s finest and take a wander through Hills with us this summer?

– Elisa Rose
