Christine & Dan

Dan Smith and Christine Kowald

Dan Smith and Christine Kowald met in Geelong in 2019, but it was their Adelaide Hills property that set the backdrop for their wedding late last year.
The couple tied the knot on December 2, 2023, at their 6.9ha property at Cromer where they built an-off grid home after moving to SA in 2020.
They say the highlight of their day was having their family and friends together in one place. Christine also loved seeing her flowers for the first time and hearing Dan’s vows, while Dan’s favourite moment was watching Christine walk down the aisle. Dan popped the question in Echuca on the way to a holiday in Beechworth, but not everything went to plan.
“Dan had to take me to a coffee shop that existed somewhere there,” Christine says.
“I wondered why it was so important he took me there and why he was suddenly so stressed and why slow-moving traffic made him more irritated than ever before.
“He became flustered and parked and proposed to me in the car.
“He then took me to a jeweller where I picked out my own engagement ring.
“It seems the coffee shop didn’t exist.
“His plan was to take me to the river and propose there, but he became so concerned about the location of the jeweller that he forgot about that part completely. It’s amusing to me because I would never have said no and he knows this for a fact!”
