Editor’s note | Autumn 2026

Welcome to the autumn 2026 edition of the Hills Wanderer.

Autumn is arguably the most picturesque season in the Adelaide Hills – exotic trees paint the region in tones of red, orange and yellow, vineyards begin transitioning into rows of copper, and the region’s apple orchards – the epicentre of the State’s apple-growing industry – come to life.

In recent years these orchards have given birth to a blossoming cider industry.

In this edition, follow our regular wine writer, Tony Love, as he explores the origins of this industry in the Hills, its evolution and its future.

We’ll also introduce you to the country’s most colourful cricket commentator, whose path to the top of his profession was marked by a love for the game and uncompromising commitment to his own individuality.

Meanwhile, our History Uncovered series will take you back to a time when the now-quiet lakeside town of Milang was the epicentre of the Murray River trade route; while local journalist-turned-author Lainie Anderson shares how her love for writing and history has inspired her dynamic career.
