Betty & Daniel

A chance meeting in the Middle East marked the beginning of this romance.

A coincidental holiday to the Middle East marked the beginning of Daniel Tretola and Betty Dennes’s romance.

The couple, who had known each other as children but lived in different states, happened to join the same tour group travelling through Jordan, Egypt and Israel in 2017 and reconnected.

“We continued on our travels afterward separately through Europe and then upon returning to Australia our relationship continued to grow as we spent the next four and half years doing long distance,” Daniel says.

They were married at Lot 100 in Hay Valley on March 22, 2024, after Daniel proposed in September 2023 at Cronulla Beach in Sydney.

“We were living in Sydney and Betty was helping to organise one of her friend’s bridal shower afternoon,” Daniel says.

“Betty had assured me that the afternoon would go for a maximum of a couple of hours and so in my optimism I had planned to pick her up after the shower to go “watch the sunset and relax” after the busyness of the day.

“I had organised to start the evening down at the spot of our first date once back in Australia (Cronulla Beach) as the sun set over the ocean (Betty’s favourite time of day and place) and then had dinner booked.

“However as things do, the bridal shower ran well over the stated timeline and … so I proceeded to anxiously walk around the suburb watching the sunset alone wondering if I should just raincheck the evening’s plans.

“… Although the sun had set we made our way to a spot overlooking the beach where I dropped to one knee and asked Betty to spend life together.”

The couple’s wedding was photographed by Daniel’s auntie, Verity Edgecombe.

Their favourite memories from the day included walking into their reception after sunset photos and seeing all their family and friends together enjoying themselves.
