Sophie & Oliver

The question was popped at a romantic picnic.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House were the backdrop for Oliver Horton’s proposal to Sophie Koerner in December, 2022.

The couple, who had met about a decade earlier as staff members at an American summer camp, had just returned from the UK, where they had lived together for eight years.

“After surviving many long Covid lockdowns in London together we finally got back to Australia after three years of me not seeing my family and we spent a few nights in Sydney,” Sophie says.

“We went for a walk into the botanical gardens and went to the famous Miss Macquarie’s Chair.

“We were laying on the grass having a picnic and Oliver popped the question.

“I was in complete shock and said ‘yes’ about 100 times.”

After moving to Australia in 2024, the couple was married on November 15, 2025, at Woodburn Homestead, near Sophie’s childhood home at Strathalbyn.

“Oliver is English so we had some very special guests over from England, that was really fun,” Sophie says.

“It was also just the most stunning day with weather and everything went so smoothly.

“We had the most fun day being surrounded by our loved ones.”
