Rebecca & Jerome

Art brought Rebecca and Jerome together.

Rain gave way to blue sky just in time for Rebecca Stevens and Jerome Lyons’ garden wedding. The couple was married on April 11, 2026, at home on the grounds of the Cheese Factory Studio Gallery at Meadows, which was also the backdrop for their love story. Jerome bought the property in 1995 and converted it into a gallery and studio, before reconnecting with Bec in 2002.

“We had met briefly through a mutual friend a couple of years before I started working at the Meadows Bakery in 2002,” Bec says. “I was also going to art school at the time.

“Jerome would come in every day for his latte with one sugar.

“We would flirt a bit and one day I, knowing Jerome had an art gallery, asked if I could bring over some of my artwork (charcoal life drawings).

“He said yes, so I did, and Jerome promptly offered me a drawing studio space, and the rest is history!”

The couple became engaged about six years later when Bec was updating her Facebook status in 2008 and asked Jerome if she should “pop it as engaged”.

But it was a second proposal about 17 years later that fast-tracked their wedding plans. “Around September last year Jerome said ‘if we ever get married, we should get The Ocelots to play at our wedding’,” Bec says.

“The Ocelots are a music duo from Ireland, one of our favourite acts that have played at the Cheese Factory. A couple of weeks later, the manager of The Ocelots sends us an email asking if we would like them to play here in 2026.

“So I turn to Jerome and say ‘we’d better get married then!’.

“Then I hopped on one knee and said ‘Jerome Lyons, will you marry me?’

“He said yes, again!” Like their love story, the couples’ wedding was marked by personal touches.

Jerome’s vows were written on large sheets of wood and he made his own ring from a $2 op-shop spoon, while Bec’s rings were passed down from her grandma and great-grandma.
