Nikita Sommer and Billy Hyder
It was a happy accident that brought Nikita Sommer and Billy Hyder together.
“We met on social media five years ago,” Nikita says.
“Billy reached out to me with a ‘hi, nice to meet you at the pub last night’.
“I never was at the pub!
“After some banter back and forth and each trying to prove the other wrong, we finally met, a happy accident that changed our lives forever.”
Nikita, who is from Crafers, and Billy from Hahndorf, moved in together two years later and remained living in the Adelaide Hills.
Billy proposed to Nikita mid-air during a trip to Melbourne with the help of flight attendants, but not all went to plan.
“Billy gave the ring pouch secretly to the flight attendant,” Nikita says.
“Unfortunately the pouch was empty.
“Convinced the ring was lost, the flight attendants still poured the champagne and wrote on a napkin ‘will you marry me?’
“I said ‘yes’ and actually laughed about the lost ring – typical Billy!
“The good news was, the ring was never in the pouch, it was at home safe and sound in the box it was bought in.”
The couple was married at Veale Gardens on South Terrace in Adelaide in March, in a ceremony that included their siblings, alongside their staffy, Dash, who made the trip down the aisle wearing a bespoke bow tie.
The reception was held at The Krystal Function Room at Pt Adelaide.
