Hills’ best roadside produce stalls

We’ve found the best roadside stalls, ready for your next Sunday drive

Roadside produce stalls can be a ‘blink and miss it’ situation, but there’s nothing like experiencing the magic of discovering a punnet of locally grown berries fresher than anything in the shops or a jar of homemade jam made with love.
We’ve done the hard work and scoured the Adelaide Hills for the best roadside stalls selling everything from fresh flowers to apples, berries, sauces, baked goods and condiments. The best part? You’re helping support the talent and passion of the locals! Time for a Sunday drive.

1
The Yellow Flower Cart

195 Piccadilly Road, Piccadilly

This roadside stall in Piccadilly is hard to miss. Look out for the little yellow cart and small garden shed stocked with fresh bunches of flowers bound to brighten your or someone else’s day, whether it’s for a special occasion or just because. The Yellow Flower Cart, which has been running for seven years, offers mixed floral arrangements, including proteas and heath myrtle, roses, lilies, daisies and more. All blooms are either sourced locally or from major wholesalers.

2
The Olde Apple Shed

59 Onkaparinga Valley Road, Balhannah

A long-time favourite, it’s hard to walk away from this roadside stall empty handed. Bags of crispy apples, juices, sweet treats and other condiments line the shelves, but it’s the traditional apple pies and rhubarb and apple crumbles that one would be mad to leave without. Trading hours are 10am to 5pm seven days a week, so there’s a good chance of finding something sweet and crunchy when you stop by. Easily spotted by the big red apple on the top of the shed.

3
Springwood Farm

16 Cornish Road, Summertown

Head along to Summertown and stock up on a heap of homemade goodies from this farmgate stall, which will reopen from October through to next June. Jams, sauces, vinegars, soups, honey and dried fruit are available to choose from and fresh berries will be ready for harvest in late November. The homemade berry ice cream is a hit with kids and there’s a shady spot with a picnic bench to sit and enjoy the treats.

4
Mel’s Garden Pantry

16 Murray Street, Strathalbyn

You can spot this roadside gem by looking for the lime-green self-serve beehive selling honey, hive products and free-range eggs seven days a week. All the products are grown and produced by local beekeeper Melanie Bishop and her hive of bees and brood of hens. Many of the bees live at the family’s apiary on the Fleurieu Peninsula where they forage among native scrub land and the flock of hens live in Strathalbyn and provide fresh eggs. The hive products such as beehive wax candles and lip balms are popular and make for the perfect gift all while supporting a local producer.

5
The Butcher’s Pantry

CRN of Hiscocks & Bird in Hand Roads, Woodside

The Butcher’s Pantry features more than just its name suggests. Ready-to-go grazing boxes, veggies, jam, dips, chutney, eggs and cookies are just some of the goodies to be found and if there’s a chance the first signs of strawberries could make their way to the stall by November. Best to check the pantry’s Facebook page for up-to-date opening hours. Plans are also afoot to expand the stall onto the property to increase the offerings, so watch this space.

6
Cudlee Creek Estate

197 Tippett Road, Chain of Ponds

Elise McCallum has been baking sourdough for the last five years, beginning during the onset of the pandemic and becoming “absolutely obsessed with it ever since”. In 2024 she decided to open a roadside stall selling her baked goods, which often fly off the shelf. During spring, the stall offers the usual classic plain, multigrain and fruit sourdough loaves along with the very popular sourdough cookies, brownies and cookie slabs. Seasonal sweet sourdough loaves are also on offer, including raspberry and white chocolate, chocolate and lemon and blueberry.
