Editor’s note – Winter 2025

Welcome to the winter 2025 edition of the Hills Wanderer!

It’s once again the time of year when the Adelaide Hills are painted green, the fog settles over some towns and rarely seems to lift and a warm haze of woodfire smoke can be seen across the region as you take the freeway up from Adelaide.

But the cooler temperatures and rainy days are no reason to stay at home. If you’re looking for a way to wile away the hours on a rainy winter’s day, check out our list of top winter experiences. From cosying up by the fire at a cellar door to cheering on your favourite footy team in the rain, there’s plenty to do for everyone!

In this edition of the Hills Wanderer magazine, we’ll also introduce you to the man who ran his way into the history books when he beat national sensation Gout Gout at the Stawell Gift this year and we’ll explore what drove a self-taught Strathalbyn chef to give away hundreds of gourmet meals to members of his community.

We’ve also introduced a new fashion column and puzzle page this season, so snuggle up by the fire, grab a glass of red and settle in for the latest edition of the Hills Wanderer.
